You walk into the house yelling. Everything around you irks you and seems to be getting on your nerves. And you have absolutely no control and the world around you appears to swirl around like a whirlwind of tornadoes.
Ever felt the above? Stop right there. Press the pause button of your life. And Focus. Focus on not that’s not around you but shift the focus within you. What are the emotions blitzing their way through you? What are the thoughts that are running in that big maze in your head? Where do you feel it?
As we pose these questions to ourselves the instant reactions we go through are mostly frantic and chaotic. We quickly hop like a kangaroo from thought to thought, from question to question and ultimately succumb to the pressures of time and needs.
What if we slightly change the strategy? Divert the tension. And how is that done? The minute the tornado of questions and actions approaches you, put a mental barricade. No entry to the hundreds of queries posed to the brain.
Go thoughtless. Just for a few minutes. If this seems tough , watch your thoughts pass by your brain as you would watch the scenes in a movie. Let them come to you and dissipate, come to you and dissipate. The thought of going thoughtless can be tough and time consuming initially, however with practice definitely achievable.
So here we go again, a tornado of thoughts approaching you, try going thoughtless just for a couple of minutes. Inhale…exhale….inhale… exhale… inhale ..exhale..as you are taking nice deep breathes, slowly get your brain and heart right on track. Slow and steady.
And now we go into prioritizing.
Prioritize.
Prioritize what you have to do physically.
Prioritize what you have to think mentally.
Prioritize what you have to feel emotionally.
Ultimately the priorities will be sorted into three buckets – crucial , not too important, can be neglected.
Put all your focus in accomplishing the things that fall under the crucial bucket and then the not so important bucket.
Train your mind to let go of items that fall under the can be neglected bucket.
Something that is an absolute ingredient to be added to the crucial bucket list – devote at least 30 minutes in a day to doing something you like, to self care , to positivity. If 30 minutes seems a bit much ,then let’s start with baby steps. 10 minutes a day and slowly increase. Continue taking care and doing things for yourself.
With time you will notice a change. You walk into the house serene and calm. You are the embodiment of zen even though chaos is all around you. You remain calm amidst the tornadoes of thoughts and actions that are approaching you all the time. Prioritize yourself. Take care of you.
