The word SOMA according to ancient Indian scriptures represents the subtle nourishing lunar energy. We are all aware of the innumerous benefits of the sun and the energy it holds. But the moon doesn’t always receive its due credit – somehow the moon has been often associated with sickness, lunacy , instability and several such negativity.
On the positive side, the moon has been associated with the emotional body – our inner world, and deep patterns of thinking and feeling, embedded in the unconscious. In many Native traditions, the Moon was revered as ruling the rhythms of the tides, or the waters – which is the lifeblood of the Earth. She teaches you about intuition and introspection and has a strong connection to the cycles of life.The transformation from the no moon phase to the full moon phase can be compared to the journey of a seed – from a tiny dot to a fully grown , beautiful blooming flower.
At SOMA we believe, the transformation from seed to flower is synonymous to us human beings bringing about significant positive changes in our lives, day by day, step by step. It doesn’t have to be several changes simultaneously. It can be that one drastic lifestyle change that you wanted to bring about.
Something as simple as stepping out for a ten minute walk everyday, reducing your junk intake, sleeping early, five minutes of meditation or just devoting time in a day to do something happy for yourself. All that needs to be done is sowing that seed. Embed and firm up the decision to change for the good – and there is your initiation to becoming that blooming flower.
The new moon is the beginning of a lunar cycle, and it is the dark phase of the moon. It is a time for internal reflection and planting seeds of intention for the weeks to come. The seed is buried in the dark rich soil. At this phase, I recommend setting goals for where you want to be:
- What is one thing you’d like to move toward in your life?
- Then, write out an affirmation of how grateful you are to be in the space of it happening.
